Lupus (or SLE - Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) is a medical illness affecting the immune system in such a way that it starts to attack the patient's tissues instead of protecting them (also known as autoimmunity). For some it can be very mild, for others it may mean a lifelong illness with the potential for serious consequences such as kidney failure. As such, many patients with chronic lupus require financial aid and constant emotional support.

Unfortunately, public awareness and knowledge of lupus is still lacking, even though there are 5 million people living with lupus around the world.

May 10 is World Lupus Day. Will you join me in helping to spread awareness of lupus, and to support us in our efforts to help lupus patients?

Your generous donation to Lupus Association (Singapore) will not only help countless patients in Singapore who need financial support, the funds will also go towards educational talks and programs.

"Lupus is a common illness but not many people are aware of it. The cause for lupus is still unknown. On 28 March 2013, I received news from a friend from Australia that a close friend of his had lost his battle with lupus after 3 years of being in and out of hospital and daily dialysis treatment. On the other hand, I have also heard of many success stories of lupus patients who are able to lead complication-free lives. I've had lupus for 2 decades now and I am able to manage my illness well thanks to dedicated doctors and Lupus Association (Singapore), or LAS. Lupus may be potentially a lifelong illness but it CAN be managed with proper education, regular monitoring and appropriate treatments. With your donation and help in spreading the word, I hope that more people will come to know about lupus and patients will know that they are not alone and LAS is there to lend a helping hand."
